UK DENTAL LABORATORY INDUSTRY SURVEY REPORT 2002/2003 EXECUTIVE SUMMARY The 2002/03 UK Dental Laboratories annual industry survey report was carried out by healthcare specialists LCS International Consulting Ltd (LCS) in December – February 2003. Responses to the full survey were received from 8% of the membership of the UK Dental Laboratories Association (DLA) and fully reflect the underlying geographic split and NHS/private mix. Radical Makeover in UK Health “Hospital services that fail to attract patients in the new market-driven National Health Service, will be allowed to close. What is more, if patients fail to opt for NHS providers, we are not going to force them to choose services they don't want” That is the message from New Labour this summer. They also intend to press ahead with the second wave of independent centres to treat 250,000 patients a year, plus other contracts for non-emergency surgery and diagnostics. NHS DENTAL LABORATORY SECTOR IN CRISIS’ The UK Dental Laboratories Association (DLA) released today, their annual industry survey report. Major findings from the Report (prepared by healthcare specialists LCS International Consulting Ltd) are:- · Volume growth in the last year in the UK (mirroring trends in Europe, North America and Pacific Rim countries) has derived in the main from new products such as Belleglass composite resin crowns, Fortress and non-precious bonded crowns, composite inlays (Artglass), composite/all-ceramic restorations, Targis Vectris, Empress 2, superior high-gold bonded work and ‘implants’. WHEN SIZE IS EVERYTHING What size do you think this is? It is not often when interviewing someone from the dental world, or any other world for that matter, that you are greeted by a question. Of course Paul Saper is talking about the size of the dental private sector and his estimate of around £750 million was not a lot higher than mine. More...
